AbstractThe internal oxidation of AgCu alloys with the Cu percentage varying from 0.3 to 9.5 at% was studied in air at 750 and 850 degrees C. Stacking fault tetrahedra (SFT) in internally oxidized alloys were observed by high resolution electron microscope (HREM). It is suggested that the SFT formed through the migration and agglomeration of "Kirkendall" vacancies formed during internal oxidation of the alloy. The effect of SFT on the internal oxidation behavior is discussed in detail.
