Abstract | The air oxidation of a Cu-bast: alloy containing 5 wt% Abr has been studied at 650-750 degrees C at 50 degrees C intervals. The corrosion kinetics follow the parabolic rate law to a good approximation. The alloy corrodes at rates very similar to pure Cu and forms an external scale of almost pure copper oxides (CuO and Cu2O) which often contains also some small Ag metal particles in the external zone. Furthermore. it forms also an inner region composed of a mixture of Ag metal and Cu2O, where the volume fraction of Ag is much higher than in the alloy, which contains also some porosity. No Cu depletion is observed in the alloy beneath the oxidation-affected layer. |
