AbstractThe initiation and propagation of microcracks and fracture behaviors were observed and investigated, the bending and slow tensile properties were measured for an Al-Li alloy. The results showed that the natural aged alloy displayed better comprehensive properties than the peak aged alloy. The different aged alloys also showed various plastic deformation mechanisms, fracture modes and crack propagation resistance. All inclusions, primary T-2 phase and the subgrain boundaries with a great amount of precipitated T-2 phase were the weakened zones for the alloy to deform and fracture. Strain localization also was the source for low plasticity.
