Several NiAl-based composites containing different strengthening phases have been fabricated by hot pressing aided exothermic synthesis(HPES) plus hot isostatic pressing(HIP). Their microstructure and interfaces have been investigated. The mechanical properties including Vickers hardness, fracture toughness, tensile strength and compressive strengths were also tested. It is concluded that the strength of in-situ NiAl-based composites by HPES processing can be effectively improved.
