AbstractThe electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) features and the resistance to corrosion of an epoxy coating containing the pigment of zinc chrome yellow have been studied with the aid of EIS and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis. The resistance to corrosion of coating, even the selection of aging technics, can be evaluated based on the time of the emergence of the second time constant and the shrink of the capacitive arc in the EIS spectra and FTIR spectra. The coating was treated under the conditions of different aging temperatures and times. It is revealed that when the coating was aged at 80 degreesC and 140 degreesC in the period of 3 weeks, there is very good resistance to corrosion. The process of aging is the one that the further reaction of organic macromolecule competes with the breakdown of the molecule bond. Moreover, the mechanism for the anti-rust pigment of zinc chrome yellow is proposed.
