Two types of gamma hydride precipitates with the same structure were observed in coarse-grained commercially pure titanium containing about 77x10(-6) hydrogen. The interactions of slipping and twinning with both types of hydrides under cyclic straining were analyzed using SEM and TEM. It was found that the type-I gamma hydrides can be plastically deformed and even ultimately fragmented by a slip mechanism with no voids formed under cyclic plastic deformation. While type-II gamma hydrides are difficult to be plastically deformed. The crystallographic mechanisms for the plastic deformation of hydrides were discussed.
