Abstract | Nano-sized Fe, Fe/C and Fe/N particles had been synthesized by Chemical Vapor Condensation (CVC) process and studied by means of HRTEM, XRD and vibration sample magnetometer. The precursor of iron carbonyl (Fe(CO)(5)) was used as a source of metallic vapor and carbon monoxide or ammonium gas - as the sources of carbon or nitrogen. As-prepared nanoparticles had nearly spherical shape and core-shell type structure. The influence of experimental parameters on structure and phase composition of nanoparticles was investigated. With the precursor decomposition temperature increase, the particle size increased and size distribution changed from symmetric to asymmetric one. The main phase of Fe/C nanoparticles shifted from Fe3C to alpha-Fe with the change of reaction temperature and carrier gas flow rate. The core/shell structure of iron oxide-coated Fe/N nanoparticles correlated with the experimental parameters of the CVC process, which strongly affected their magnetic properties. |
