Thermal behavior of thermal barrier coatings composed with Al2O3 and ZrO2 sprayed by plasma

摘要Three types of thermal barrier coatings(TBCs) were prepared by plasma spray (PS) on GH536 superalloy substrate with different layers. One is the traditional TBC with Ni22Cr10AlY as bond coat and ZrO2-8wt% Y2O3 (8YSZ) as top coat, the other two TBCs have a triplex structure with composite layers of 8YSZ + Al2O3 and ZrO2, respectively. The static oxidation test and thermal shock tests were conducted to evaluate the oxidation kinetics and thermal shock cyclic lifetime of the TBCs. With the different failure criterions, the failure mechanism of TBCs was discussed. The thermal shock resistance of state-of-the-art duplex TBCs is the best. It is indicated that the higher oxidation resistance is obtained by using of composite 8YSZ + Al2O3 ceramic layer. It has the better oxidation resistance if using 8YSZ + Al2O3 as the inner composite layer of TBCs, comparing with as the out layer.
