AbstractThe effect of nanocrystallization on oxidation resistance of TiAl intermetallics at 800 - 900 degrees C was investigated. Both of cast TiAl and nanocrystalline TiAl formed TiO2 + Al2O3 complex scales. Their isothermal oxidation kinetics all followed the parabolic rate law. The nanocrystallization of TiAl improved the cyclic oxidation resistance of TiAl significantly due to the enhancement of scale adhesion.
