AbstractEffect of UV intensity on the corrosion behavior of carbon steel exposed to simulated Nansha atmospheric environment has been investigated using weight loss measurement, a stereomicroscope, a laser scanning confocal microscope (LSCM), a scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). According to the results, when UV intensity is higher enough, the corrosion rate was accelerated significantly. As UV intensity increasing, the surface roughness of the rusted sample was not changed much at the initial stage. After long time exposure, the roughness became lager and the rust layer became thicker with many voids and cracks distributing in the rust layer. The composition of corrosion products were the same, but the relative content of different kind FeOOH was changed as UV intensity increased.
