Abstract | The anisotropic mechanical behaviors of 2198 Al-Li alloy sheet under different heat treatments, including new quenching, natural ageing and artificial ageing, were systematically assessed via uniaxial tensile tests in three different directions: rolling direction (RD), 45 degrees and transverse direction (TD). It's found that the anisotropy of yielding stress after quenching and natural ageing is similar, mainly owing to the same crystallographic texture. The delta' participate generated during natural ageing has no influence on the anisotropy but increases the strength homogeneously. By contrast, 2198 Al-Li alloy after artificial ageing exhibits a different anisotropy of the yielding stress due to the inhomogeneous distribution of T-1 participate on four different variants of {111} plane. It is mainly caused by the inhomogeneous activation of dislocation glide during the pre-deformation, which has been verified by the calculation result via the visco-plastic self-consistent model. A new factor, T, has been proposed to consider the contribution of T-1 on the anisotropic yielding stress. In addition, a new analytical model has been established to predict the anisotropic yielding stress of 2198 AL-Li alloy sheet under different heat treatments and with different pre-deformation, which agrees well with the experimental results. |
