Microsegregation of a new Ni-Co-based superalloy prepared through electron beam smelting and its treatment

AbstractA new Ni-Co-based superalloy was prepared through electron beam smelting (hereinafter referred to as EBS Ni-Co superalloy). The microstructure and element distribution of the superalloy were characterized through optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Results show that the secondary dendrite arm spacings of the middle and upper parts of the ingot were 36.7 and 28.7 mu m, respectively. Ti and W were seriously segregated into the interdendritic and dendritic core regions with the segregation coefficients of 0.60 and 1.49, respectively. Various precipitated phase, including (gamma-gamma') eutectic, eta phase, MC type carbide, Ce-rich phase, and Zr-rich phase precipitated in the interdendritic regions. Furthermore, the homogenization of the EBS Ni-Co superalloy has been studied at 1140 degrees C. Segregation nearly eliminated after 40 h homogenization at 1140 degrees C because of the high diffusion coefficient of alloying elements. (C) 2020 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.
