A nanostructured Ni-CeO2 composite film was fabricated on A3 carbon steel by co-electroplating Ni with nanoparticles of CeO2. The mean grain size of the deposited Ni was about 56 ± 38 nm. Then the Ni-CeO2 composite and a coarse-grained Ni (mean grain size 30 m) were chromized by pack cementation at 700℃ for 5 h. The results showed that the chromium content and thickness of the chromized layer were greatly increased on the composite compared to those on the coarse-grained Ni. Oxidation at 800℃ for 20 h indicated that the chromized Ni-CeO2 composite film showed a better oxidation resistance compared to the chromized coarse-grained Ni.
