Rotation twin in body-centered tetragonal SiZr2 nanoparticle in silicon modified Zircaloy-4 alloy

AbstractThe partly faulted body-centered tetragonal (BCT) SiZr2 nanoparticles in as-cast silicon modified Zircaloy-4 alloy (Zr-1.45Sn-0.19Fe-0.11Cr-0.35Si-0.11 0 in wt%) were comprehensively investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and transmission Kikuchi diffraction (TKD) techniques. Nanoparticles (NP), 200-500 nm in length embedded in the alpha-Zr matrix were frequently observed. The stacking fault plane and corresponding Burgers vector are determined as (110) and 1/4 / [1 (1) over bar1] respectively through atomic configurations taken along different zone axes. Fast Fourier transformation (FFT) patterns acquired by specimen tilting showed that the defects belong to 60 degrees rotation twin with the rotation axis along the [110] direction. The subsequent TKD results also proved the rotation twin. Furthermore, the twin parameters including twin plane (TP) and twin direction (TD) were indexed to be (1 (1) over bar(2) over bar) and [(3) over bar3 (2) over bar]. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V.
