Abstract | The crystallographic orientation of TiB is one of the main factors that influence the microstructure and texture evolution of Ti-TiB composites. Different microstructures and textures were obtained by forming the two TiB-TC25G composites through vacuum arc melting and in situ reaction hot pressing. The texture evolution, as well as the role of TiB on the alpha variant selection and microstructure morphology during the beta -> alpha phase transformation in TiB-TC25G composites, are studied using an electron backscattered diffraction analysis method in the present work. It appears that the vacuum arc melting makes the TiB texture sharper and promotes the alpha variant selection during beta -> alpha phase transformation. Moreover, the alpha/TiB interface structure was characterized via transmission electron microscopy. TiB particles provide heterogeneous nucleation sites for the non-Burgers orientation relationship alpha phases within both TiB-TC25G composites. A synergetic effect of TiB texture and beta texture on the formation of a texture is also discussed. [GRAPHICS] . |
