The Gibbs-Boboliubov (GB) thermodynamic variational calculation, using the hard-sphere (HS) system as the reference system, developed originally for equilibrium system is applied to the supercooled states of liquid metals Al, Ga, Tl in the 3rd family of periodic table and transition metal Ti. The values of mean atomic volume Ω, obtained by minimizing Helmhotze free energy F with respect to Ω and corresponding values of free energy F, internal energy E, and entropy S are determined. The following data are obtained: (1) the specific heat at constant volume, Cv, (2) the isothermal bulk modulus, B_τ, (3) the thermal expansion coefficient at constant pressure, α_p, (4) the specific heat at constant pressure, Cp. The glass transition temperature Tg's are determined from Cp-T curve. The glass forming ability for metal can be predicted with the value of Tr (=Tg/Tm), which is in agreement with the experiment result.
