Steel strip deposited with Zinc was obtained by vapor deposition. An adhesion between the film and the substrate was improved using iron as a bonding layer. The quality of adhesion was tested with pull and scratch experiments. An excellent adhesion is obtained at the substrate temperature above 180 ℃. With SEM, we found the substrat temperature and deposition rate has different influence on the appearance and surface structures of the Zinc film. The surface appearance of the Zinc film changes from uniformly gray-white to silver-white with in 200 ℃ of substrate temperature with the temperature changes from room temperature up to 200 ℃. Sputting deposition Zinc film on steel strip, we obtained a Zinc film with metal lustre above 200 ℃. In the view of thermodynemics and kinetics, we discussed the oxidation mechanism of the Zn film and explained the depositing behavior of Zn on steel substrate in vacuum. Based on what we have discussed, it is suggected that 200 ℃ substrate temperature be used to provent Zn film from oxidation in the sputting process.
