The field ion microscope-atom probe has been used to study microstructures of cast intermetallic compound Ni3Al, the distribution of Ni and Al atoms in the alloys, and structural modification after adding B. Only a small part of B-doped in the Ni3Al alloys have been found to segregate at grain boundaries. The addition of B can cause replacing with each other of Ni and Al atoms to some extent, such structural variety may result in more easily propagation of dislocations in the grains and improving the ductility of the alloy. The structural change after adding Cr and Zr atoms have been studied also.
