Abstract | The initial corrosion behavior of zinc-aluminum-magnesium coated steel (ZAM) and galvanized steel (GI) in regions of extremely cold (Mohe) and industrial climates (Shenyang) was investigated. Thick snow and dense corrosion products, by preventing the intrusion of corrosive particles, inhibited the corrosion of Mohe+ (up-ward). Significantly, the superior corrosion resistance of ZAM in Mohe was not evident according to the mass loss ratio (GI/ZAM). The Mohe-(backward) for ZAM corroded severely with terrible corrosion resistance accounted for the phenomenon. Moreover, coarse eutectic phase in ZAM and grain boundary in GI was corroded prefer-entially, leading to the generation of sharp and cylindrical corrosion pits in ZAM and GI, respectively. |
