The works in three aspects are described in this paper. Firstly, a non-contact image pulse method for measuring thermal expansion of foil materials has been developed on the laser pulse thermopysical properties equipment, which is in common use for measuring thermal diffusivity, specific heat and thermal conductivity. The automatic measurement of thermal expantion foil materials can be realized if some accessories with low cost are disposed on the laser pulse thermophysical properties equipment without any alternation. Thermal expansion of pure copper was measured by this method and compared with that given by NBS, and the deviation between them is less than 3%. Secondly, an expression is derived for the temperature transient at the rearface of a two layer sample which is subjected to a equilateral trapezoid heat-pulse input on the front face firstly in the world. The analytical solution of the problem forms the basis of our method of data reduction. The solution has been programmed for computer processing of the data. The method described here has been successfully tested by measurements on copper and iron. The thermal diffusivity of semitransparent pyrolytic boron nitride (PBN)has been given by the method. Finally, other works during my graduation are described.
