Insight into multidirectional forging induced corrosion resistance evolution of Mg-Zn-Zr alloy

摘要The application of multidirectional forging (MDF) to collaboratively enhance the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of Mg-Zn-Zr (ZK) alloys has garnered significant attention from the community. In this work, however, it was found that an excessive compression of ZK alloy may not facilitate a higher corrosion resistance. The reduced grain size resulting from twin cutting (positive effect) but the increased geometrically necessary dislocation density and twin boundaries after compression (negative effect) compete with each other to control the corrosion resistance of material. Therefore, the highest corrosion resistance is obtained on the ZK60 after 8 MDF cycles rather than after a higher 15 MDF cycles, emphasizing the significance of selecting appropriate MDF cycle to enhance the corrosion resistance performance of ZK alloys.
