The simultaneous presence of sulfur and chlorine in an H-2-HCl-H2S-CO2 reducing atmosphere accelerated the corrosion at 973 K of three Fe-xCr-10Al alloys (x = 0, 5,10 at.%) with respect to their reaction with oxygen in an H-2-CO2 mixture due to the growth of porous scales and a mixed internal attack of aluminum or of aluminum plus chromium. The chromium additions were slightly beneficial for the corrosion resistance in both atmospheres by increasing the chromium content in the scale. (C) 2007 Acta Materialia Inc.
