AbstractA novel Ni-9.6 wt.% Cr nanocomposite film was prepared by co-electrodeposition of Ni and Cr nanoparticles in an average size of 39 nm. The Cr natroparticles were dispersed in the electrodeposited nanocrystalline Ni grains (31 nm in average). The oxidation at 800 degreesC showed that the as-deposited Ni-Cr nanocomposite film has a superior oxidation resistance compared to the electrodeposited pure Ni film and the uncoated Ni matrix. X-ray diffraction characterization and cross-sectional investigation indicated that a continuous Cr2O3 scale formed on the electrodeposited nanocomposite film. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V.
