AbstractP-induced softening (lower yield stress and hardness and higher ductility) in polycrystalline NiAl has been observed in the present study. Gettering or trapping of interstitial elements and reduction of Peierls stress were proposed to be responsible for the softening. The mechanisms are under further investigations.
