Preparation of precursor wire of SiC(F)/TiAl composite by magnetron sputtering

摘要In the present study, SIC fibres with a carbon surface coating were manufactured by a radio frequency heating CVD process. The precursor wire of SiC(F)/gamma-TiAl composite was prepared by magnetron sputtering. The properties and microstructure were investigated. The results indicated that TiAl columnar grains grew radially on the surface of SiC fibres during the sputtering. The TiAl coating layer contains less aluminium than the titanium aluminide sputtering target. The fracture of TiAl coating occurred prior to that of fibre during the tensile test, resulting in long-out of the fibres. The interfacial bonding between the fibre and the intermetallic coating was very weak and there was almost no element diffusion.
