Study of the inhibition mechanism of imidazoline amide on CO2 corrosion of Armco iron

摘要The inhibition mechanism and adsorption/desorption behavior of imidazoline amide (IM) on Fe surface in 3.0 mol l(-1) NaCl solution saturated with 0.1 MPa CO2 were studied by electrochemical impedance spectrum, polarization curves, surface analyses techniques such as scanning tunnel microscope and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results showed that the adsorption of IM on the Fe surface in the CO2 solution obeys Langmuir's isotherm and thermodynamic theory. The Gibbs adsorption energy (DeltaG(0)) was calculated to be 30.4 kJ mol(-1). There exists a desorption potential of IM on the Fe surface. When the applied potential on the Fe electrode is over the desorption potential, IM has no inhibition effect on the corrosion of Fe in 3.0 mol l(-1) NaCl solution saturated with 0.1 MPa CO2. The inhibition mechanism of IM on CO2 corrosion is related closely to its adsorption/desorption behavior. The pendant function group in the IM structure plays a key role in the inhibition of CO2 corrosion. The increase of temperature and the addition of chloride ion decrease the adsorption potential of IM on Fe surface in the 3.0 mol l(-1) NaCl solution saturated with 0.1 MPa CO2.
