摘要 | The high-temperature oxidation behavior of a nickel-base superalloy and aluminide-diffusion coating has been investigated over the temperature range from 800-1100 degrees C and analyzed by TGA, XRD, EDAX, and SEM. The beta-NiAl coating was formed by low-pressure gas-phase cementation at 950 degrees C for 3 hr. It was found that the formation of alpha-Al2O3 from theta-Al2O3 on the beta-NiAl coating resulted in a sharp decrease in the parabolic rate constant k(p) by one order of magnitude at 1050 degrees C during transient oxidation. The transformation caused the anomalous behavior of the oxidation kinetics curves of this diffusion coating in the temperature range 800-1100 degrees C within the first 100 hr. A change in the morphology of scales also occurred with the transformation. A growth stress was characterized by the formation of convoluted scales, which were observed on the surface after oxidation. The oxidation mechanism of this beta-NiAl diffusion coating is described. |
