摘要 | A new technique has been developed to monitor the growth stresses ill oxide scales by measuring specimen deflection. Compared ed to the conventional deflection method, the new technique does not require a coating for pl protecting one side of the specimen front oxidation. This new method does not have temperature limits and has improved precision for stress measurement in alumina scales. Two, alumina-forming alloys, Fe-22Cr-5Al-0.3Y and Fe-22.6Cr-4.42Al-0.21Ti ere studied with this method. During oxidation at 1000 degrees C in air, the average compressive stresses in the alumina scales were found to decrease from similar to 1000 to similar to 100 MPa with increasing scale thickness on the two alloys. The growth stress in alumina scales was directly proportional to the oxide grow th rates, The stresses in the substrate alloys were much lower, on the order of I MPa. Creep occurred in the substrate alloys and was taken into consideration in the stress analysis. It is believed that deep in the alloy, substrates allowed stresses in the oxide scales to relax. Annealing tests showed that the stresses related much easier in thin than in thick scales. |
