AbstractA new combustion synthesis technique has been applied to fabricate NiAlFe-TiB2 composite and the microstructure has been investigated. A new lamellar phase Fe(Ni,AI,Ti) was formed with 25% Fe addition, which has a FCC crystal with lattice parameter a=1.068 nm. High resolution images indicate that TiB2 and Fe(Ni,Al,Ti) phases are well bonded with the matrix. After compression test, dislocations have been found at the TiB2 particles as well as in the matrix and along the interface. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
