Abstract | Amorphous Fe-Si-B alloys with low silicon content are prepared by rapidly quenching. The experimental results for composition change during preparation, crystallization temperatures, heats of crystallization and activation energies for crystallization are presented. The correlations between crystallization temperature and heats of formation, electron concentration, microhardness and Curie temperature show that there exists a linear dependence of crystallization temperature on these properties. Based on the thermal analysis data and some thermodynamic data for the constituent elements of the alloy, the Gibbs free energy of crystallization and the critical work for the formation of a nucleus are calculated. The crystallization temperature, activation energy and critical work decrease with increasing iron content, so the thermal stability is enhanced with increasing metalloid content. |
