Abstract | The crystallization of amorphous (Fe0.99Mo0.01)(78)Si9B13 (FMSB) alloy, with and without a diffusion reaction with Al at their surfaces, was studied under pressures from 3 to 5 GPa at a temperature range of 780 to 930 K. With a diffusion reaction the alloy transformed into alpha-Fe(Al) solid solution at 4 GPa and alpha-Fe(Mo,Si) solid solution, (Fe,Mo)(3)B or Fe2B at other pressures. However, without the reaction the crystalline products alloy were alpha-Fe(Mo,Si), (Fe,Mo)(3)B or Fe2B in this pressure range. On the basis of thermodynamic theory, the change of the Gibbs' free energies of the alpha-Fe(Al) and alpha-Fe(Mo,Si) with pressure is given, and a crystallization mechanism is suggested. |
