摘要 | We measured the fracture strength and fracture toughness of ZrO2-based ceramics containing 14.5mol%, 15.5mol%, and 16.5mol% CeO2 at 298, 77, and 4.2K. The results indicate that there is 56-117% increase in fracture toughness at 4.2K and 47.6-92% increase in fracture strength at 4.2K. The maximum increases in fracture toughness and fracture strength from 298K to 4.2K are respect to the compositions of 16.5mol% CeO2-ZrO2 and 14.5mol% CeO2-ZrO2. The enhancement of both parameters is due to the stress-induced tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation. The transformation reduces the stress intensity at the crack tip so as to resist crack extension. SEM analysis exhibits the differences of micrographs at various temperatures. |
