AbstractBy using the results of previous investigations on the solid-state reaction in mechanically deformed Ni/Ti multilayered composites and combining a diffusion-controlled layer growth mechanism with a transient-nucleation model, we calculate, for the first time, the temperature at which the formation of competing intermetallic compounds replaces that of the initial amorphous phase in Ni/Ti multilayered composites annealed at a constant heating rate.
