Abstract | In order to overcome the difficulties in explaining the zero-field splitting and its stress (along the C3 axis) and hydrostatic pressure dependence for Na2ZnCl4.3H2O:Mn2+ crystal, which arise in previous work, we assume, in this paper, that the Mn2+ ion does not occupy the exact substitutional position of Zn2+ ion in Na2ZnCl4-3H2O, but is displaced about 0.3 angstrom on the C3 axis. Based on this, the zero-field splitting and its stress and pressure dependence have been calculated using the superposition model (and also the spin-orbit coupling mechanism), the results show reasonable agreement with the experimental findings. |
