Studies on the local structure and the EPR parameters for the tetragonal Pt3+ center in PbTiO3

摘要The local structure and the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) parameters g factors and the hyperfine structure constants for the tetragonal Pt3+ center in PbTiO3 are quantitatively studied from the formulas of these parameters for a 5d(7) ion with low spin S = 1/2 in tetragonal symmetry. The distance between the impurity Pt3+ and the center of the oxygen octahedron is found to be about 0.236 angstrom, smaller than that (approximate to 0.3 angstrom) for the host Ti4+ site due to the inward shift (approximate to 0.06 angstrom) towards the center of the oxygen octahedron. The theoretical EPR parameters based on the above local structure show good agreement with the observed values. (C) 2012 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.
