Disorder-modulated microwave absorption properties of carbon-coated FeCo nanocapsules

AbstractMicrowave absorption properties of three kinds of carbon-coated FeCo nanocapsules with modulated disorder levels of carbon shells have been investigated. The disorder level in carbon shells of Fe55Co45/(C, silicides) nanocapsules with silicides-doped carbon shells, Fe60Co40/C nanocapsules with amorphous carbon shells, and Fe55Co45/C nanocapsules with onion-like graphite shells were characterized by Raman spectra, indicating a disorder increase from 0.66 for the Fe55Co45/C to 1.06 for the Fe60Co40/C and then to 2.10 for the Fe55Co45/(C, silicides) nanocapsules. Reflection loss peak position redshifts to lower frequency with increasing carbon disorder, which should be attributed to the increase of the disorder in carbon shells and different charge transfers between FeCo-C and FeCo-Si at the core/shell interface in the Fe55Co45/(C, silicides) nanocapsules.
