Phase Structure and Magnetic Properties of Mn70Ga30-xSnx (x=5-30) Alloy Ribbons

摘要The effects of Sn substitution for Ga on phase structure and magnetic properties of Mn-70 Ga30-xSnx (x = 5-30) alloy ribbons prepared by melt-spinning and subsequently annealing at 773 K for 1 h have been investigated by means of X-ray diffraction and magnetization measurements. All the annealed samples consist of more or less Mn-1.77 (Ga, Sn), D0(19)-Mn-3 (Ga, Sn), and D0(22)-Mn-3 (Ga, Sn) phases. The Curie temperature TC for the ferrimagnetic (FI) to paramagnetic transition of the Mn1.77 (Ga, Sn) phase varies from 175 K (x = 5) to 244 K (x = 30), whereas the Neel temperature T-N of D0(19)-Mn-3 (Ga, Sn) phase decreases from 450 to 405 K. The hard magnetic properties of the samples are found to be very sensitive to alloy compositions and measurement temperatures. The optimized coercivity and saturation magnetization for the x = 5 samples at room temperature are 7.8 kOe and 19.8 emu/g, respectively. The relatively low magnetization is attributed to the existence of FI phase of Ni2In and D0(22) structure and antiferromagnetic phase of D0(19) structure in our samples.
