In-situ observation of deformation induced or phase transformation in a beta-titanium alloy

摘要Transmission electron microscopy observations during in situ tensile tests revealed alpha '' phase transformation in a beta phase Ti-24Nb-4Zr-7.9Sn (wt%) alloy. Single variant alpha '' phase is formed in deformation bands under tensile stress and the deformation bands vanish after the applied stress is released. With increasing strain, two variants of the alpha" phase are observed in deformation bands along different directions, respectively. When these deformation bands intersected with each other, these two variant alpha '' phases could remain after unloading of the external stress. The alpha '' phase transformation in single variant deformation bands likely contributes to the nonlinear pseudo-elasticity of this alloy. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
