Stress corrosion of pipeline steel under disbonded coating in a SRB-containing environment

AbstractStress corrosion of X80 pipeline steel was studied in a sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) inoculated crevice simulating the local environment beneath disbonded coating in a soil environment. The results show that the SRB number, pH and corrosion rate of the steel all distribute in gradient in the crevice. The tensile specimens undergo more severe microbial corrosion compared with the control specimen and their pitting attack severity decreases in the disbonded crevice. Applied stress enhances both local pitting and corrosion rate of the pipeline steel in the SRB inoculated crevice.
