Effect of casting temperature on mechanical properties of SiC foam/SiCp/Al hybrid composites

AbstractThe Sic foam/SiCp/Al composites were fabricated by squeeze casting at different casting temperatures and the effect of casting temperature on mechanical properties of composites were investigated. The results show that the compressive strength of the composites lowered with the increase of casting temperature. The flexural strength gets the peak value when the casting temperature is 770 degrees C. With increasing casting temperature, the compressive plastic strain of the composites is increased, the modulus is constant, at the same time, the interface bond and the number of pores in the composites are enhanced, which determined the failure mechanism of the composites.
