Abstract | Atmospheric corrosion of pure copper tinder sheltered and unsheltered exposure conditions during 1 year period in Shenyang atmosphere is studied. Atmospheric corrosion rate of pure copper, composition and protectiveness of corrosion product are different under the different exposure conditions. Corrosion rate of pure copper exposed to unsheltered condition is higher than that exposed to shelter. Especially during the rainy season, the corrosion is accelerated due to the runoff effect of rain. The main corrosion products under the different exposure conditions are Cu2O, but also Cu4SO4(OH)(6)(H2O)-H-. and Cu4SO4(OH)(6) under shelter. However, the effects of runoff and dissolution of rain on the corrosion products delayed the formation process of Cu4SO4(OH)(6)(H2O)-H-., which appeared only after 12 months under unsheltered condition. The thicker and compact corrosion film formed under the unsheltered exposure, which could inhibit the cathodic reaction of copper corrosion effectively, and thus provided a better protectiveness. |
