摘要 | The study reports on the preparation and characterization of water-based intumescent coatings modified by flake fillers. The effects of humid tropical conditions on mechanical properties, thermal degradation and fire performance of ammonium polyphosphate-dipentaerythritol-melamine (APP-DPER-MEL) coating without and with flake fillers were investigated using mechanical tests, a fire protection test, differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermogravimetry (TG) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). These tests indicated that corrosive media in humid tropical conditions damaged the chemical action of ammonium polyphosphate, dipentaerythritol and melamine in conventional APP-PER-MEL coatings, whereas flame retardant additives in flame retardant coatings modified by flake fillers could still maintain very good chemical interaction and thermal degradation characteristics even after a 600 hour humid tropical test. This revealed that multi-layer structures formed by the parallel-arranged flake fillers could greatly enhance corrosion resistance, mechanical properties and fire performance of flame retardant coatings in humid tropical conditions. |
