A method of potential energy map was used to investigate the behavior of the grain boundary (GB) sliding in palladium. It is found that the ordered GB is easily actuated to slide, and its sliding will result in a migration of GB along the direction perpendicular to the boundary plane. In contrast to the ordered GB, the disordered GB sliding is hardly activated. This gives a good explanation why the stress concentration and the dislocation emission usually appeared at the disordered boundary during the deformation process.
