Microstructures and hydrogen permeation characteristics of Nb-Ti-Ni alloys

摘要Microstructures and hydrogen permeation properties of Nb50Ti25Ni25 and Nb40Ti30Ni30 alloys were investigated, and compared with those of Nb, Pd and Pd-Ag alloy. The results indicate that the microstructures of the two alloys consist of the primary bcc-Nb(Ti,Ni) solid solution and the eutectic of bcc-Nb(Ti,Ni)+B2-TiNi, and the volume fraction of the eutectic phase increases with additions of Ni and Ti. The hydrogen permeabilities of the two alloys at 673 K are 1.71x10(-8) and 1.03x10(-8) mol(.)m(-1.)s(-1.)Pa(-0.5), respectively, which are in the same magnitude level as that of pure Pd, but a little lower than that of Pd-Ag alloy. Increasing of eutectic phase favors resistance to hydrogen embrittlement, while the hydrogen permeability of the alloys increases evidently with increasing the primary phase. Alloys with high hydrogen permeability and good resistance to hydrogen embrittlement can be designed by optimization of Ni and Ti contents.
