Effects of Al content on microstructure and stability of GH4169 nickel base alloy

AbstractWhen Al contents are in the standard range required by GH4169 alloy (0.45%), gamma '' phase and gamma' phase precipitated separately in the matrix grain, and delta phase precipitated as the main precipitate along the grain boundaries. When Al content >= 1.24%, gamma ''/gamma' with compact morphology formed in the grain, delta phase decreased greatly and a large amount of Laves phase, a small amount of M7C3 carbide and sigma phase precipitated along boundaries. After aging at 680 degrees C for 1000 h, the compact morphology grew slowly, whereas the phases precipitated along the grain boundaries increased in amount and coarsened in dimension, and alpha-Cr phase appeared. This trend is more obvious with increasing A1 content, as a result, the impact toughness of the alloy is largely decreased.
