Effect of rhenium on solidification and segregation of nickel-based superalloy

AbstractThe solidified process of the rhenium-containing nickel-based superalloys was investigated in this paper. The solidified experiments of samples were carried out in a silicon carbon tube furnace with following water quenching. Microstructure of samples and subsequent compositional analysis of solidified ones were determined by an optical microscope (OM) and electronic probe micro analysis (EPMA), respectively. The results show the initial temperature, final temperature and the temperature interval of solidification keep constant with increasing content of Re in alloys under the test conditions, demonstrating the similar solidification sequences. With increasing Re element in alloy, the segregation coefficient of Al, Cr, Co, Mo, and Ta slightly varies, but the segregation coefficient of W obviously decreases.
