The corrosion behaviors of Fe-10Cr and Fe-25Cr alloys in mediums of KCI and KCI-ZnCl2 salt films at 450 degreesC were examined. Both the alloys suffered from accelerated corrosion beneath the salt films and severe attack was observed in the case of KCI-ZnCl2 mixture salts, while the corrosion - resistance became worse with increasing chromium content in the alloys. On the contrary, the corrosion-resistance of the alloys could be improved significantly with higher chromium content when corroded within molten KCl-ZnCl2 salts. This difference is mainly related to the different oxygen supplies under two corrosion conditions, which induces the different thermodynamic stabilities of the protective Cr2O3 scale.
