AbstractThe superplastic behaviors and deforming mechanism of eutectic NiAl-9Mo alloy consisting of primary NiAl and eutectics of NiAl and alpha-Mo solid solution have been investigated. The alloy exhibits superplastic elongation as high as up to 180% over a stain rate range from 5.55 x 10(-5) to 1.11x10(-4) s(-1) at the temperature range from 1323 to 1373 K with strain rate sensitive index of 0.56. Grain boundary sliding (GBS) of primary NiAl matrix is responsible for superplastic deformation. The fracture stems from cavities occurring during the deformation.
