Corrosion behavior of K38G alloy and its nanocrystalline coating in molten sulfate at 900 degrees C

AbstractA nanocrystalline coating with the same composition as K38G alloy was sputtered on the substrate alloy K38G by means of magnetron sputtering method. The corrosion behaviors of cast alloy and its sputtered nanocrystalline coating in molten 75Na(2)SO(4)+25%K2SO4 at 900 degreesC were studied. The results indicate that the coating prolonged the incubation of the breakaway corrosion and improved the hot corrosion resistance of K38G alloy due to the formation of a continuous and compact Al2O3 scale on it. The hot corrosion mechanisms of the cast alloy and the coating were discussed.
