Hot corrosion of Ti3SiC2-based ceramic in molten Na2SO4 at 900 degrees C and 1000 degrees C

AbstractThe hot corrosion behaviors of polycrystalline bulk samples of Ti3SiC2 coated with Na2SO4 film were studied at 900 degreesC and 1000 degreesC in air. The surface morphology, structure and composition of scales were investigated by SEM/EDS and XRD. It was shown that Ti3SiC2 suffered from serious hot corrosion at 900 degreesC and 1000 degreesC. The oxide scales have a duplex structure. The outer layer consists of coarse grains with many pores, while the inner layer consists of fine grain and is compact. The mixtures of TiO2 and SiO2 formed during the hot corrosion are different from those of Ti3SiC2 oxidized in air.
